Artificial Intelligence in Healthcare: Complementing, Not Replacing, Doctors and Healthcare Providers

E. Sezgin, Digital Health (2023)

AI in healthcare remains a polarising topic. The utilization of AI in clinical practice has improved diagnostic accuracy and patient outcomes, raising questions about the role of healthcare providers. This article emphasizes that AI should complement, not replace, doctors. Human-AI collaboration, with a human-in-the-loop approach, combines the strengths of healthcare providers with the analytical capabilities of AI. By maintaining human expertise and supervision, AI can enhance healthcare services, improve multidisciplinary teams, and lead to a more efficient healthcare system.

A Scoping Review of Metaverse in Emergency Medicine

T. Wu and C. Ho, Australasian Emergency Care (2023)

Interest in the metaverse has been growing worldwide, especially in the medical field, due to its immersive and interactive nature. This review explores the application of metaverse in acute medicine by examining published studies and clinical management. The findings reveal that augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) have broad applications in education and clinical training, with VR being more prominent in emergency medicine. Lifelogging and mirror world are emerging areas in the metaverse roadmap. Understanding the features and potential of the metaverse in emergency medicine can enhance emergency care systems for future challenges.
