i3 Simulations is proud to have collaborated with SingHealth Duke-NUS Institute of Medical Simulation (SIMS) on the development of their i3 Hub. The i3 Hub has been designed as a state-of-the-art facility to provide immersive and interactive learning experiences to healthcare professionals. The recently published article titled “Not just for fun” in Singapore Health magazine sheds light on the unique features of the i3 Hub and the benefits of incorporating serious games in healthcare training.
“The SingHealth Duke-NUS Institute of Medical Simulation (SIMS) i3 Hub is an exciting development for healthcare education in Singapore. By incorporating serious games and other cutting-edge technologies, we are able to provide our healthcare professionals with engaging, interactive, and realistic training experiences that better prepare them for the challenges they will face in the real world.” – Professor Chan Choong Meng, Group Chief Education Officer, SingHealth
The article highlights the importance of serious games in creating a safe learning environment for healthcare learners to practise critical thinking and decision-making. The SIMS i3 Hub utilises cutting-edge equipment, such as extended reality (XR) headsets, gaming computers and tablets, and a haptic floor to provide an immersive experience for learners. The serious games available on the platform have been carefully curated by experienced healthcare professionals and are customised to incorporate real-life scenarios.
Through repetitive practice and immersive learning experiences, healthcare professionals are exposed to engaging and interactive learning aimed at improving patient care. The serious games in the SIMS i3 Hub provide learners with a safe space to practise and hone their skills, making them better equipped to perform procedures on patients in real life. The i3 Hub’s approach and pedagogy fit well with the new generation of healthcare professionals, who are well-versed in various digital technologies.
“Serious games offer healthcare professionals the opportunity to practice and hone their skills in a safe and controlled environment, which is especially important in high-stress and emergency situations. By simulating challenging scenarios and providing detailed feedback and debriefs, we can help learners improve their critical thinking and decision-making abilities.” – Professor Fatimah Lateef, Co-Director (SingHealth), SIMS
The launch of the SIMS i3 Hub and the development of serious games are opening up new opportunities in healthcare learning. At i3 Simulations, we are proud to have partnered with SingHealth to create a unique and innovative facility that empowers the next generation of healthcare professionals.
