Medical Metaverses? Organising Immersive Clutter @ CWIC 2022
i3 presented at CWIC 2022, focusing on spatial computing technologies’ impact on medicine, including VR, AI, and the Metaverse.

On November 2nd, i3 had the pleasure of participating in CW (Cambridge Wireless Ltd)’s CWIC 2022 The Hyperconnected Human event at Hinxton Hall. Our team gave a talk titled “Organise Immersive Clutter,” where we focused on the use of spatial computing technologies, including augmented reality (AR), mixed reality (MR), and virtual reality (VR), in the field of medicine. These technologies, when combined with artificial intelligence (AI) and the Internet of Things (IoT), have the potential to transform the way data is captured and processed, and will play a crucial role in the approaching Metaverse.

However, the abundance of buzzwords surrounding these technologies can be confusing for medical professionals, making it difficult for them to understand the various use cases and decide which technology is best suited for their needs. In our talk, we aimed to simplify this noise and provide a clear distinction between the different technologies, along with real-life examples of their successful use in medical education, clinical and surgical training, patient therapy, and more.

We also provided a brief insight into the design, development, and deployment process for these technology-led solutions, including the good, the bad, and the ugly aspects. Our goal was to empower medical professionals to make informed decisions when considering the use of these evolving technologies in their work.

These modules, powered by 5G streaming technology, allow doctors to practice life-saving procedures in a risk-free environment, giving them the confidence and skills they need to succeed in real-world situations.

In addition to our talk and VR demonstrations at CWIC 2022, we also had the opportunity to connect with other industry professionals and learn about their innovative approaches to using technology in their respective fields. It was inspiring to see the wide range of applications for XR technology and the potential it has to revolutionize the way we work and learn.

Overall, it was a successful and informative event, and we were thrilled to have the opportunity to share our work with others in the industry. We look forward to continuing to push the boundaries of medical training with the use of immersive technology and the Metaverse. As we continue to grow and expand our work in this field, we are grateful for events like CWIC 2022 that provide a platform for us to share our progress and learn from others. We look forward to staying connected with the incredible professionals we met at the conference and collaborating on future projects involving the Metaverse and 5G technology.

For those that couldn’t attend, we wanted to use this blog post to share some of the key insights from the presentation:

i3 Simulations is utilising the power of Extended Reality (XR) technologies to revolutionize the way medical professionals train and educate themselves. By bringing together various types of XR technologies, including Augmented Reality (AR), Virtual Reality (VR), Mixed Reality (MR), and 360-degree videos in one platform package, i3 Simulations is making it easier for medical professionals to access and use different types of XR technologies for training and education.

Each of these technologies offers unique benefits and can be used in different ways to improve medical training and education. For example, Augmented Reality (AR) overlays digital information on top of the real world, allowing students to learn anatomy and procedures in a more immersive way, allowing contextual data to real objects and true-to-scale digital representations.

a photograph of panel session at CWIC Virtual Reality (VR) creates a computer-generated simulation of a three-dimensional environment that users can interact with and navigate, providing students with a realistic and immersive experience of procedures, surgeries, and other medical scenarios any time and anywhere. Mixed Reality (MR) combines the best of AR and VR by overlaying virtual objects on the real world in a headset. This allows users to interact hands-free with both the virtual and physical environments. 360-degree videos are a type of immersive video that allows users to view a scene from all angles, which can be used to create virtual tours of medical facilities and to provide a realistic view of medical procedures that is more engaging and gives a better sense of atmosphere and scale.

i3 Simulations’ platform allows users to easily switch between different types of XR experiences, depending on their needs and preferences. This allows medical professionals to get the most out of each technology, and to gain a more comprehensive understanding of medical procedures and scenarios. The integration of all these XR technologies in one platform package is a game-changer in medical education and training. It allows medical professionals to learn in a more immersive and realistic way, which can improve their skills and ultimately lead to better patient outcomes.
