Paediatric Blunt Polytraumatism

A 4-year-old boy involved in a motor vehicle collision arrives unresponsive with blunt polytraumatic injuries. The patient requires the learner to lead a trauma team in assessment and stabilisation following pediatric trauma guidelines.

The objectives are to teach, train, and test the learner on prioritization of management for an injured pediatric patient (Primary Survey – ABCDE + Secondary Survey), airway management including indications for definitive airway, recognition and treatment of life-threatening thoracic injuries, recognition and treatment of shock, identification of a brain injury, and recognition of the need to transfer care to specialties.

This simulation was produced with McGill University Health Centre.
